HAPPY MOTHERS DAY (BELATED!) Well this week has been great. Elder shaffer and I had many experiences this week I hope to always remember. We had the opportunity to work with 3 kids ages 12, 11, and 9.
We had not gone by these kids in over 2 months. They have been hard to contact and working with them can be hard to help them come to church. This week we decided to go by them and they were home. Then they even had their best friend there!. We were able to teach all of them. Wendy and Louise are brother and sister and Stephanie is Wendy's best friend. As we taught them, their answers were astonishing sharing that when they went to church they felt they were at "God's House" and prophets are people that talk with God. Stephanie, who we have not taught before, even described her love of prayer because of the comfort she felt as she prayed and talked with God. She feels comfortable sharing personal things with Heavenly Father and her best friend. I could not have asked for a better experience when we asked Stephanie to say the prayer before we left and Wendy said "I'll help you say the prayer" as Stephanie expressed that she did not know how to say a prayer.
Elder Shaffer and I had an experience putting all our effort forward. As we planned Friday night we ran out of time to finish planning which left our night open. We had gone through the day and when night came our plans were still empty. At the time I had not made plans to have a member out with us. And No sets had been made. As I asked for help I felt then a feeling of peace come that led us to the plans we needed for the night. I had this feeling we needed to go by Mark's, a member who had not come to church in a while, and then Eric, an investigator we had not seen for a long time. We were able to, unfortunately he could not meet with us because he had to leave. We have set up many appointments with him this transfer and things keep happening to where he has to cancel. I'm not sure why but we have not been able to teach him yet. He continues to read the Book of Mormon and stay clean from alcohol he says. Eric was home as well as his wife Alex. We had the opportunity to teach and he followed through on the commitment we left him last time to read the restoration pamphlet! His knowledge of the scriptures is pretty good and makes discussion possible. He is searching for truth and wants to know more but we have to help him understand that God is his loving Heavenly Father (that he has a body) which could be hard to do with them.
I know that prayer is such a great blessing! I have been desiring to teach simpler and found the answer. By studying the gospel you can know how to too. It came like a flowing river little by little till my cup was filled and then I saw the answer. Read and pray everyday and you will learn the principles to over come any situation that the world throws at you!
This is our week...we helped our Man - Stan the man and his picture representing what we are doing. Helping him clean up his house (mess).
Love,
Elder VanKammen
