Hello Family and Friends :) This week has been a trip for me! Here are a few things I have learned: 1)GOD TRULY DOES LOVE YOU. 2) THE ATONEMENT ALLOWS US TO MAKE MISTAKES! 3) REPENTANCE IS NOT JUST ASKING FOR FORGIVENESS of just sins. 4) THE CHURCH IS THE BLUEPRINT OF GODS KINGDOM IN HEAVEN. THE "WORLDLY OUTLOOK" IS THE BLUEPRINT OF SATAN'S KINGDOM. 5) DON'T JUST DO, BECOME! 6)PRAYER IS ESSENTIAL(aka COMMUNICATION WITH GOD IS ESSENTIAL) 7) YOUR DESIRES of your heart (AKA WHO YOU ARE INSIDE) MAKE A DIFFERENCE. 8) MATTHEW 16:25 "WHEN YOU LOOSE YOURSELF, YOU FIND IT" 9) THE GIFT AND POWER OF THE HOLY GHOST ARE POWERFUL! 10)"KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!" This is a great deal of what i have learned this week among other things in just the work its self. I truly have gained the strongest conviction of many things in my life this week. This conviction is that when you repent, and know that repentance does not have to occur just because you did something wrong, you will feel such joy, happiness and desire to BECOME.(TO BECOME WHO YOU REALLY ARE INSIDE....A SON/DAUGHTER OF GOD... REMEMBER GOD HAS NO LIMITS. Neither do we as his children. the only thing to limit YOU is YOU! LOVE ELDER VAN KAMMEN Pictures are of a service project for one of our investigators :) Painted the 10 commandments on the wall. Her son is the other boy in the picture with his cat, Pikachu. Well there was a change of events for me in the last 2 Weeks. I originally was in a trio with Elder Pollard (to the Right, pictured below) and Elder Heywood (to the left). I am now with Elder Sipes (pictured below with me). He has been out for about 22 months. He is from Oklahoma and is (Cheyenne) American Indian. He really knows what he is doing as a missionary. Coming into the area within 5 days there was a Baptism for their investigator (now member of the Church), Maria Rodriquez. I had the opportunity to top off her final teaching visits and see how much the gospel of Jesus Christ changes peoples lives! We could feel the love in the room as we taught her and showed her 2 talks, one by Thomas S Monson (The prophet aka a man called of God to lead HIS church) and another one by Jeffery R Holland (From the Quorum of the 12 Apostles.) These men are other witnesses of Jesus Christ next to the prophet. They bore testimony of the restored gospel and the reality of being a member of HIS church. HERE ARE LINKS TO THE 2 Talks. I would recommend watching them they are powerful!: https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/04/the-cost-and-blessings-of-discipleship?lang=eng https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2014/04/be-strong-and-of-a-good-courage?lang=eng I am learning so much about the basic principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Though these are basic principles they are powerful attributes and tools to have! For example Faith. Faith is to hope for things which are not seen. To have a firm belief and trust in Jesus Christ. Faith is a principle of ACTION and POWER. The principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ are Faith in the lord Jesus Christ, repentance, meaning to turn back to God or change, Baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and Enduring to the end. In a gist, these principles are a firm belief in changing for good becoming clean from impurity and then remaining faithful to the end (sticking with your decision). HOW GREAT IS THIS! Here is the pamphlet: https://www.lds.org/bc/content/ldsorg/content/english/manual/missionary/pdf/36951_the-gospel-of-jesus-christ-eng.pdf?lang=eng The second principle or attribute, is the gift of agency or the power to choose to do right. Decision making is part of this. If one has ever had a hard time stopping a certain activity or even starting something, it can be difficult if one has not made the decision, the act or process of deciding, sticking to what you chose. I Have learned this first hand. About 3-4 weeks ago, I made the decision to do better to work harder at studying and organizing my studies. In the recent week now I have learned so much. This transfer I spent with Elder Pollard/Heywood and now Elder Sipes. Heavenly Father has blessed me with these Elders to help me and teach me how the gospel of Jesus Christ can answer any question you may have and the strengthening power in my personal life! I can testify that when taking things to the Lord in prayer and relying on him you will find success. I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH :) keep in touch LOVE ELDER VAN KAMMEN BELOW IS 5 Elders in Virginia ward - Elders Simon, Killian, Sipes, and Blaskos Apicture of the temple and a flower |
