Well this week has been quite a blast for me taking over the area after only 6 weeks of being here. My previous companion was transferred this last Tuesday So I received a new companion, Elder Shaffer. He is from Chicago as well. We had a BBQ today. Made Hamburgers with Munster cheese and special seasonings :)!
Elder Shaffer and I had some great experiences happen this week In contacting people. Wednesday and Thursday were so similar. We were working in the afternoon just before dinner and we had miracles happen both times. On Wednesday we had about half an hour before dinner and wanted to go by a guy we contacted a week earlier. He just so happened to be working on his front porch! He told us to come in and he asked us a series of questions wanting to learn more. Then on Thursday before dinner. We contacted a lady walking her Dog. We asked her the dogs name, Dooji. She said they came up with it because of the phrase "that's a doozy" She proceed to tell us all about her family sharing that she was from Chile and her son is there now. Her Husband is Czec. We kept talking with her and began to talk about the Plan of Salvation which she mentioned she was really looking for a church that she could go to and learn more about :)
Then on Saturday We went by a potential, Allen! He opened the door excitedly and one of the first things He asked us was, "Can I come to your church and can I bring my family ? " He said he would hopefully be able to come to church on Sunday. It was a cool experience to see someone with a desire to learn more about Jesus Christ recognizing that the Truth comes from God and that he must pray and ask God to know the Truth!
I was reading a scripture this morning I thought was really cool!
This scripture is from the Book Of Mormon. The One speaking is the son of Lehi, Nephi. Lehi was a prophet and received revelation from God.
1 Nephi 2 :16 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, being exceedingly young, nevertheless being large in stature, and also having great desires to know of the mysteries of God, wherefore, I did cry unto the Lord; and behold he did visit me, and did soften my heart that I did believe all the words which had been spoken by my father ; wherefore, I did not rebel against him like unto my brothers.
Nephi was a very Healthy and strong man Physically. "He was very manly" but because of his desires he was humble and asked God to know the truth. To know what his father said to him. His older brothers hated their Dad, Lehi, for following what God told him to do. They didn't want to listen. Nephi asked Heavenly Father if the things his Dad said were true. By asking, Heavenly Father was able to change his heart a.k.a "soften his heart" that he trusted in his father's words.
James 1 : 5 If any of you lack wisdom , let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. So ask god :)
