The Mile Square Park ward Is awesome! It has been a great week. Elder Ellin my companion was not feeling well this week, but he still wanted to work and "we got work done!" Elder Ellin has been out 3 months and Is extremely pumped about teaching people! He puts teaching and God First. When you put God first everything else will work itself out because you are both carrying about doing God's will which includes you being happy and healthy ! I love this area and am learning so much right now!
This week has really been a step up in understanding what the basic principles of the gospel really mean. For one thing is faith! Faith means to act. It means to not just tell yourself about something, but to take action. To work hard it requires faith not just mere strength. When you have Faith you are showing God that you trust him. To show something you have to do something. I love this principle and it has really made everything make so much more sense. I don't have to be energized and super awake physically to work hard. I just need to have FAITH!
When you ask in FAITH miracles happen. You make it happen. I have seen examples of this all week as we have taught people and been at the right place at the right time all because we had FAITH to act. To have faith you have to have confidence. We had confidence to go out and work even when he was not feeling 100% because he had a cold.
We teach people everyday and share with them that our purpose is to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored Gospel ( Teachings) of Jesus Christ. These teachings are the same ones He taught to the people when was on the earth, but just as anything in mortality it became corrupted and truths were lost and confused. All the truths have been restored today through Joseph Smith by revelation. This is a fancy way of saying that through Joseph, Heavenly Father showed him the truths that had been lost through the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon teaches about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have really understood the gospel of Jesus Christ this week as the foundation which we need to build our lives on. We can choose to learn truths through experiences or through prayer and study through revelation given to us by the Holy Ghost!. I would rather learn truths through study then experience if I had the choice.
Elder Ellin and I the first Day had miracles happen. Well one thing is he had a nice fall on his bike and bent his front wheel in half, but he wasn't hurt just got a really good laugh out of it! Especially being the one watching it happen from behind. We were about to leave for the afternoon but i could not find the key to my lock. I ended up not being able to find it so we headed out about 10 minutes later. Because of this event and deciding to look for it WE FOUND SOMEONE new we could teach and she accepted to come to church! Heavenly father showed us miracles and allowed us to find people to teach. oh and the big part of this was just before we left, Elder Ellin asked in the prayer to help us find someone new to teach :) Faith through prayer!
Investigators-
Mike Lin- Is an immigrant from Taiwan 30 years ago. He was taught 8 years ago , but hasn't been taught until about a month ago, Before I got here. He understands English very well and really wants to learn. HE reads everything we give him too and has questions for us.
Tandon - Native of India probably 50 and his religious belief are Islamic. Is an assistant manager at a 7/11 and works every day 7am to 3pm. It can be hard to teach him because he wants to learn the truth but believes all religion is true making it hard to teach that there is one God. We are really trying to help him make it to church but his work schedule prevents since he works one Sundays as well.
Andrea- A single mom 40. Has 2 kids with autism and a mom that is living with her till march 8th that has Alzheimer. Really wants to come to church!
Wendy (11) and Luis- 2 kids that really want to get baptized but because of language barrier with parents and lack of understanding are struggling to make the commitment. The great thing is there are members in the ward that are going to pick them up for church and once a week pick them up so we can teach them at the members home! :)
I love you all!
The other man in the picture is stan "THE MAN" we help him with service each week.
